Course Description:

This is an intermediate level course which meets the NJSBPTE required 2.5 hours of ethics instruction.  Participants of this in-person session will revisit key concepts of ethics including the following: the four principles approach, ethics-related core values, moral decision-making, and the social contract for physical therapy professionals.  Polling of participants and group discussion will be utilized to promote participant interaction.

Objectives: 

By the conclusion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss professional core values, the current, as well as original, APTA Vision Statements and their relationship to the APTA Code of Ethics, justice and the social contract.
  2. Define “capability justice” and describe its role in the ethics of physical therapy practice.
  3. Identify ethical challenges found in current physical therapy practice including those related to COVID-19, telehealth/telepractice, and justice or equity.
  4. Analyze ethics in practice using multiple approaches: including the RIPS Model.
  5. Determine optimal resolutions of ethical challenges in the current health care environment.
