Best Practices in Adult Neurological Disorders

Course Description:
This networking dinner and educational session is designed as a beginner or intermediate level course for occupational therapy practitioners to network with other practitioners and learn about best practices in the provision of occupational therapy services to an adult population with neurological challenges. Through lecture and discussion, participants will learn about current research literature supporting best practices in the provision of evidence-based occupational therapy services to adults with specific neurological disorders. Participants will be provided with resources relevant to sessions attended. Occupational therapy students with guidance from faculty will present information related to the following topics:
Alzheimer’s Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Huntington’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease
Participants will attend three of the six topics offered.
Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, participants will:
- describe evidence-based practice for clients diagnosed with specific neurological disorders based on current scholarly research-based literature.
- describe application of best practices when providing OT evaluation & intervention services.
- identify current evidence-based practice trends applied to a case scenario.
- discuss locating evidence to use in practice.
