Course Description

 This continuing education course will provide physical therapists and physical therapist assistants the ability to apply the principles of biomechanics to the joints of the upper and lower extremities for analysis of movement disorders and the application of effective manual therapy techniques for the correction of these disorders. Instruction will include demonstration and practice of joint mobilization techniques including high velocity low amplitude thrust techniques

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to explain the biomechanical principles of joint mobility dysfunction.
  • Participants with be able to demonstrate the correct application of the convex/concave rule to joint mobility testing and joint mobilization procedures.
  • Participants will be able to identify appropriate clinical indications for advanced extremity joint mobilizations.
  • Participants will be able to identify and rule out contraindications for advanced extremity joint mobilizations.
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate skilled performance of advanced joint mobilizations of both the upper and lower extremities.
  • Participants will identify appropriate outcomes for advanced joint mobilizations for the extremities and how to assess these outcomes.
