Neural Mobilization and Examination

Neural Mobilization and Examination

Friday, March 22nd, and Saturday, March 23rd, 2019

Friday, March 22nd Registration: begins at 4:30 pm, Program time: 5:00 pm-9:00 pm

Saturday, March 23rd 7:30 am check in. Program time: 8:00 am-6:00 pm

Course Description:

The concept of restricted neural dynamics is not new, however its impact on our patients’ daily activities and movement tolerance is often overlooked during the examination and treatment of our patients.  This course covers concepts for examination and quantifying restricted neural dynamics and intervention strategies to address the dura, nerve bed, and peripheral nerves.  Included is a critical review of the most up-to-date literature in peer-reviewed journals regarding the use of neural mobilization as an examination and treatment technique.

Lab attire consisting of shorts, as well as swimsuit or halter-tops for women is required to allow for proper practice of techniques.

ObjectivesAt the completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Identify the basic conditions necessary for optimal nerve health
  2. Recognize conditions that increase the potential for nerve injury
  3. Recognize the regions of the brachial plexus and map patients’ symptoms to these regions
  4. Apply and document findings for neural mobility testing of the UE using the neural mobility grading scale (0-5) and the Brachial Plexus biasing for Radial, Median and Ulnar nerves
  5. Apply and document findings for neural mobility of the LE with metric measurements (of the hip or knee) using: the Straight Leg Raise with biasing of the Tibial and Fibular nerves, Prone Knee bend with biasing of the Femoral and Saphenous nerves.
  6. Differentiate between neural and non-neural structures of the UE/LE through positioning, palpation and symptom behavior
  7. Generate a treatment plan, and establish goals and prognosis based on exam results from case studies
  8. Identify, understand and apply basic treatment including exercises, manual techniques and home exercise/ADL modifications for the UE and LE with case studies and labs
