Course Description:
The course presents ethical case scenarios in health care, emphasizing physical therapy issues, and uses small and large group discussion to analyze potential issues, barriers and possible outcomes to the cases. Utilizing the personal experience of the participants as well as presented ethical concepts, the course is designed to build upon entry level education.
This course discusses issues relating to decision-making in health care by exploring various ethical dilemmas. Case presentations allow participants to explore the issues of the case.
Objectives:
By the conclusion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the potential boundary crossings, power gradient challenges inherent in a hands on profession.
- Propose potential solutions to challenging patient therapist relationships using ethical decision making strategies while using the core documents for guidance.
- Utilize tools to assist colleagues, employees and students in managing unintended consequences of certain hands on actions.
- Develop strategies to recognize risk and mitigate the impact of incorrectly perceived interpersonal contact.
