COVID‑19 & Respiratory Illness Guidance

After careful consideration and in alignment with the current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New Jersey Department of Health, we are transitioning our approach to managing COVID-19 on campus. Effective immediately, we will treat COVID-19 in a manner similar to other respiratory-related viruses.

This means that several protocols, including contact tracing, quarantining, and the requirement for clearance from Student Health Services to return to campus, will no longer be required. Instead, we encourage all members of our university community to remain vigilant and follow the CDC’s guidelines for preventing the spread of respiratory illnesses.

Do I Have the Flu and What Should I Do?

Symptoms

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms that usually start suddenly, not gradually:

  • Sometimes Fever (at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit) with cough and/or sore throat
  • Body Aches
  • Fatigue
  • Chills
  • Vomiting
  • Runny or Stuffy Nose
  • Diarrhea
  • Headaches

What Should I Do to Prevent the Flu

  • Avoid contact with others.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Wash hands often and before/after eating or congregating such as class or parties. Use sanitizing hand gel if unable to wash hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • If your illness is severe or you are at high risk for flu complications, contact your health provider.
  • Be aware that if flu becomes widespread, there may be little need for testing, so your provider may choose not to test you.
  • You may be ill for a week or longer. Stay home until your temperature is normal for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
