For graduate student Juliana Gonzalez of Sigma Delta Tau (Delta Pi chapter), attending her first NGLA Conference and helping chaperone the younger Greek leaders was “a ton of fun.”
“It gave me the opportunity to connect with them a little more – I don’t know all of them as well as some other chapters, so it was nice to learn about them and what they do for the community,” said Gonzalez, who is currently studying in the Master of Science in Communication Disorders program.
Another highlight from her time at the conference was meeting brothers and sisters from Greek organizations and chapters across the state. Students were encouraged to meet with national representatives as well as peers from chapters outside of their respective colleges and universities during an affiliation lunch.
“I met with some of the executive members that sit on the national Sigma Delta Tau board and met so many sisters from across the state, and it was so interesting to see how they run their chapters and exchange ideas to bring back to our own chapters. That was really cool,” Gonzalez said.
The conference culminated in an awards ceremony and banquet, where Stockton was honored with five awards.
Health Science major Ahnjeles Maldonado earned the Greek Leader of Distinction Award for the work she has done with the Zeta chapter of the Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority.
According to Greer, Maldonado has gone above and beyond to re-establish the chapter’s presence on campus and has instilled a spirit of collaboration and purpose in Stockton’s Greek Council, an entity that she has been leading as president.
🏆 Awards & Recipients
- Greek Leader of Distinction: Ahnjeles Maldonado of the Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. (Zeta chapter), for exemplifying the ideals of her sorority in her daily life.
- Amy Vojta Impact Awards – Academic Achievement: Stockton University Fraternity and Sorority Life, for the accreditation program grounded in NACE competencies.
- Amy Vojta Impact Awards – Risk Reduction: Stockton University Interfraternity Council for sponsoring training in NARCAN and CPR.
- Amy Vojta Impact Awards – Public Relations: Stockton University Delta Phi Epsilon, for the Team of Well-Being.
- Philippi Award: Mat Greer, for making significant contributions to the fraternity/sorority community within the Northeast region by advising any governing council.
“Ahnjeles’ continuous pursuit of personal and community growth, alongside her contributions to Stockton’s fraternity and sorority community, made her an ideal candidate for the Greek Leadership of Distinction Award,” Greer shared. “Her impact has set a new bar for Greek Council leadership and engagement, and I am confident she will continue to drive positive change well beyond her time at Stockton University.”
The Alpha Theta chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon took home the Amy Votja Impact Award in Public Relations for their Team of Well-Being Instagram page, where members of the sorority frequently post positive affirmations and encourage students to take care of their mental health. The chapter also hosts events and partners with on-campus resources such as the Wellness Center, Counseling & Psychological Services and Osprey Advocates.
“The initiative was created in response to rising concerns about mental health challenges among students, including stress, anxiety and feelings of isolation,” Greer said. “Many members reported a lack of accessible information about mental health resources.”
“This program addressed these challenges by creating a centralized, accessible platform for mental health information and fostering a culture of kindness and understanding within the chapter. It also provided members with tools and knowledge to manage their well-being effectively,” Greer continued.
On top of earning the Philippi Award for this year, Greer served as educational chair for the conference and helped organize the educational sessions that attendees participated in; he is expected to fill this role once again when the conference returns to Baltimore in 2028.
