Korean Lotus Flower Making Workshop

Korean Lotus Flower Making Workshop

August 14, 2019, 2:00pm-3:00pm, Stockton at Hammonton, 30 Front St., Hammonton | Make your own beautiful lotus flower out of colorful Korean “hanji” paper. This Lotus Flower workshop is based on the Korean tradition of making "jihwa," or flowers made from “hanji” or mulberry paper, often in the form of peonies, chrysanthemums and lotuses. The tradition of making hanji flowers is believed to have begun in ancient times when flowers were not available off season, so Buddhist rituals used paper flowers, which can be made at any time. This tradition also ties in with a respect for life, regardless of whether it is an animal or a plant. The art supplies are courtesy of the Yeon Deung Hoe Preservation Committee of South Korea and Jongbok Yi,associate professor of Asian Philosophy at Stockton University.
