Join Peppy Margolis for weekly film discussions which celebrate the richness of aging through the lens of film. The films portray stories about the lives, challenges, and triumphs of older adults. Each film offers thoughtful conversation about aging, identity, and the experiences that shape us. Not only are films excellent sources of entertainment, but they also offer valuable opportunities for learning, connection, and reflection, and a touch of Blue Zones.

Ripples from the Holocaust: From Zeilsheim to SCOSA 
First Monday of each month in 2025

Location: Zoom
During this program, Peppy will introduce us to her family’s life, while also intertwining important historical facts on the Holocaust. Some of the topics discussed will be: International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Death March, immigrating to America, finding family, the importance of teachers, Molly’s Pilgrim video, The Second Generation- Ripples From The Holocaust video, returning to Germany to find Hans Loeffler, Peppy’s response to October 7th, hearing  Arnold Schwarzenegger speak about his family history (a father who was a Nazi), Journey of German Jewish Dialogue since 1994, and My Ethical Will -  Having a will and its importance. This course will take place on the first Monday of every month in 2025.

Caramel Popcorn Basket

Location: Swan Bay Folk Art Center 300 Sooys Landing Rd, Port Republic
In this workshop students will complete a Shaker style cats head basket with a seagrass accent. Students will also receive a recipe to serve in this basket.

SCOSA is partnering with Players & Playwrights by the Jersey Shore and South Jersey Players to present two Theatre Showcases in August.
Tickets are $35 and include a buffet-style artisan sandwich board, caesar salad, chips, pasta salad, lemonade or iced tea and dessert are included. There will also be a beer and wine cash bar.

The Gilded Age is an American historical drama television series created and written by Julian FellowesThe Gilded Age are the boom years of the 1880s to 1900s. Society is undergoing economic and social change characterized by extreme wealth inequality and industrialization. The series explores conflicts of new money, from industrialism, and old money, which represents inherited wealth, the African American upper class, and the domestic workers who are considered a lower class. The series follows Marian Brook, a young woman entering 1882 New York City's rigid social scene with strict rules that cause drama, daily conflicts, and scandals between families of “new money” and “old money.” We willdiscuss the numerous famous families who were members of The Gilded Age.

Third Saturday Monthly Program

Players and Playwrights (P&P) is a collective of playwrights and readers (aka players) who meet monthly to read original plays. Performances are organized several times a year. Interested players and playwrights are invited to attend a meeting once before committing to join.
