OSPREY Awards Recognize, Honor Faculty and Staff

May 8's OSPREY Awards recognized 11 faculty and staff members, including Director of Residential Education & Student Support Services Ellis Bonds (Unsung Hero Award) and Professor of Mathematics Judith Vogel (TOP OSPREY Award).

Galloway, N.J. – Faculty and staff were recognized for their tireless efforts in creating a culture of dignity, kindness, respect, compassion and civility during this year’s OSPREY Awards on Thursday, May 8.

The awards ceremony directly followed Stockton University’s yearly Employee Recognition Day in the Sports Center, which included a special video presentation created by Production Services and celebrating employee milestones, ranging from five years at Stockton to 50 years.

According to Stockton President Joe Bertolino, this year’s recognition day honored over 200 faculty and staff members and 30 retirees who collectively represent more than 3,000 years of service to the university.

“I want to thank all of you for what you do every day,” Bertolino said. “You make an impact, whether it is in the classroom or behind the scenes, or on the front lines supporting our students. If not for the people in this room, the institution would not be able to serve students day in and day out.”

Shortly before faculty and staff members were recognized for their years of service, Chief Human Resources Officer Craig Bickley highlighted how the room was full of smiles, laughter and 1980s-themed outfits and hair, which, for him, was indicative of the kind of happiness and rapport among the employees.

“Memories are not so much about where you were or what you were doing, but who you shared it with, and the fact that you guys are all here to share these recognitions and awards with each other is astounding and shows what this place is like and the relationships you all have,” Bickley said.

When concluding the program, Stockton Executive Vice President Terricita Sass expressed her gratitude, saying that she both “respects the past” and “embraces the future.”

“To those who have committed years of service, some spanning a lifetime here at Stockton, we appreciate you and what you have done to build this institution. For those of you with your very first recognition, we appreciate you building the future of this institution,” Sass said.
