ca. 1905. This two-story, Romanesque Revival style brick school building has a nearly-square footprint. The photograph depicts it shortly after it was built around 1905. The original windows and the recessed door seen in the photograph were removed many years ago from the building. The school next to it was demolished in the late 20th century. For a town of primarily farmers, these stately school buildings were an incredible achievement. The town’s population was about 6,000, yet the school buildings were designed with space to last until the 1970s. The building is still used for education by St. Joseph’s High School.
