Galloway, N.J. - Atlantic City celebrates Columbus Day Weekend with Boardwalk Opera as the company presents the beloved opera, “I Pagliacci,” at Dante Hall Theater, 14 N. Mississippi Ave.
Boardwalk Opera, a new opera company dedicated to bringing quality opera and classical music to southern New Jersey, will present Ruggero Leoncavallo’s opera, “I Pagliacci,” on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. and Sunday,Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. at Dante Hall.
“I Pagliacci” is one of the most beloved and recognizable Italian operas in history. It tells the story of a doomed commedia dell’arte cast, traveling and performing against the backdrop of the tense marriage of the jealous Canio and his wife Nedda, who longs for freedom from her controlling husband.
An excellent troupe of up-and-coming singers makes up the cast: Kevin Courtemanche as Canio, the jealous husband; Alexis Rodda as Nedda, his wife; Andrew Cummings as Tonio, Suchan Kim as Silvio, and Mark Nimar as Beppe. The story will be updated to a modern setting and will be performed as a performance within a performance, while music director Thomas Cunningham conducts.
