Club Connect: Meet the… Stockton Yarn Project

The Stockton Yarn Project is just one way to get involved at Stockton University.
Galloway, N.J. — Stockton University has been the birthplace of many creative student endeavors over the years.
This fall, Anna Becker, an Environmental Science major from Mount Laurel, created the Stockton Yarn Project to bring together creative students for a common cause. Growing up learning crochet from her mother, she entered Stockton looking for students who shared the same creative passion.
As of now, the Stockton Yarn Project is planning collaborations with other student clubs for this semester as well as next year. This spring, the club will take on a large weekly project to create a granny square blanket for a local women’s shelter.
The Stockton Yarn Project meets every Monday at 5 p.m. in the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Center. You can reach out to them through OspreyHub, Instagram or over email.
Becker believes students can use their talent or passion to give back to the community. The club donates all goods made by its members to domestic violence shelters or women’s shelters.
“The impact of a handmade donation is priceless; it shows compassion and kindness. It shows someone struggling that a complete stranger cares enough to create something beautiful and give it away in the hope someone else will enjoy it,” Becker said.
Her vision for the Stockton Yarn Project is to inspire hope in all victims seeking help from difficult situations and shine a light on domestic violence awareness.
For students interested in joining the Stockton Yarn Project, the only requirement is an interest in giving back to the community. Regardless of skill level or experience, all students are encouraged to attend meetings with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Interested members should expect a short presentation that includes information about the organizations they donate to and a lesson in crochet or knitting techniques, followed by time to work on projects. E-board members are available during the rest of the meeting to provide individual instruction to members who need extra help with their projects.
