Club Connect: Meet… Water Watch

Water Watch is just one way to get involved at Stockton University.

Galloway, N.J. – In between our various clubs that focus on saving the environment and searching the seas, there is a subset of students interested in testing the water quality of places like Lake Fred on our campus, Water Watch

Water Watch plans on having some campus cleanup days soon, and have partnered with the Marine Science Club and Marine Technology Club to host a trip to the Rutgers Marine Field Station in Tuckerton this September. One way you can get involved is by following their Instagram or emailing them at waterwatchsu@gmail.com

Founded in 1996, Water Watch prides itself on being an “environmental service club that primarily focuses on water quality,” according to their OspreyHub page. The club's roots originated as a local club associated with the non-profit called Food & Water Watch. That partnership has since ended, but the club has continued to move forward.

Nowadays, the club looks to expand by hosting an environmental forum and doing campus cleanups.

“This year we are trying to make it bigger, gain new members and bring back the environmental volunteering that hasn’t been done in years,” said Hannah Elliott, a Marine Science major at Stockton University.

Elliott says they are actively looking for, “People interested in helping other people and who have the willingness to serve our community and help with water-related projects."

At meetings, students can expect an educational presentation, followed by planning for upcoming events and then conclude with art and crafts using sustainable materials.
