Club Connect: Meet the…Unified Black Student Society
Galloway, N.J. – “Working together to be unified as one.”
Kamaya Evans, secretary of the Unified Black Student Society (UBSS), and the rest of the executive board are excited to bring inclusive events to campus and invite individuals from all cultural backgrounds to engage in discussions on important topics like colorism and racism.
The Pre-Kwanzaa event features performances, food and a vibrant celebration for those who observe the holiday. This year, the Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6, and will also serve as the retirement celebration of Pat Reid-Merritt, distinguished professor of Social Work & Africana Studies.
Join the club every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in C-102 for their general body meetings and become a member on OspreyHub. Follow their Instagram (@STKUBSS) for updates on upcoming meetings and events!
During their general body meetings, a variety of topics are explored, including how the media portrays Black individuals and the exploitation of Black culture.
UBSS hosts numerous events throughout the year, including the Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration in December and the Black Gala in February.
The February Black Gala allows students to dress up and come together to recognize the hard work and dedication of students, faculty and staff of color in making the campus a more welcoming place for marginalized communities.
Additionally, the club participates in community service. In March, they will host an event where they will distribute sandwiches to children in Atlantic City as part of a food drive.
