Club Connect: Meet the… Stockton Tap Club

Stockton Tap Club is just one of over 200 ways to get involved at Stockton University.

Galloway, N.J. – When Aniyah Harris, a passionate tap dancer, arrived at Stockton University, she found herself missing the dance art form.

The club plans to host a dance recital during the spring term. These recitals are organized just like a professional show, with tickets, costumes, decorations, props, lighting and a backstage setup.

They even plan to have a showrunner to manage logistics, allowing the club's executive board members to focus on their performance rather than managing the technical aspects of the production.

To learn more, the club meets on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the M-205 Dance Studio. Join them on OspreyHub or follow them on Instagram (@STK.TAP) for more updates!

In the fall of 2022, she decided to fill the gap and use her skills to create something new: the Stockton Tap Club.

“She taps dance at home and missed it here. So, she gathered students who also used to tap dance, mainly friends, and they came together to form the Stockton Tap Club. Over the past few years, we’ve grown last year, we had about 12 members, and this year, we’re aiming for 20,” said Biannca Connelly, a club member.

The club attracts students from various majors. You do not need to be in the School of Arts & Humanities — science and business majors can become members as well.

“Honestly, anybody with any previous tap dance experience, even if you danced when you were younger for only a couple of years, if you're still interested in tap, we’d be more than happy to welcome and accept you,” said Laura Ebersol, another club member.

Each semester, Harris organizes the club around a collective goal, where members vote on a dance recital, production number and weekly choreographed dances. The club has participated in multiple on-campus events, including the Fusion Experience during University Weekend in October.
