Club Connect: Meet the… First Ospreys Club

The First Ospreys Club is just one of over 200 ways to get involved at Stockton University.

Galloway, N.J. – Being a trailblazer can be tough, but the First Ospreys Club helps ease the transition for first-generation college students here at Stockton University.

The club meets biweekly on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. in F101 for fun activities, like painting pumpkins or creating collages of members' home countries. They also engage in discussions about professional development, connecting students to valuable resources and opportunities for success.

If you’re a first-gen student or want to be part of a club that soars higher, visit them on OspreyHub or follow them on Instagram (@StocktonFirstOspreys) to stay updated on upcoming events.

“Our focus is to create a safe community for first-gen students,” said Jasmine Contreras, public relations chair.

All week, the First Osprey Club celebrated First-Generation Week with a series of exciting events open to the entire Stockton community. The national celebration aims to recognize and uplift first-gen students through engaging activities that foster connection and belonging.

Events included a luncheon with Montclair University faculty member Daniel Jean, where students shared their experiences; a fun-filled bingo night with prizes in the Multicultural Center; and a “First to Fly” dinner that celebrated the achievements of first-generation students and encouraged networking among peers and faculty.

For 2023's First-Generation Week celebration, we asked students to share what it means to be a first-generation student (or First Osprey), how it impacted their college experience and what support they have received since choosing Stockton University for #StocktonVoices.
