SCOSA Successful Aging Festival

Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) will hold its annual Successful Aging Festival on Thursday, May 17 in the Campus Center at Stockton University, 101 Vera King Farris Drive in Galloway, N.J.

Free and open to the public, the daylong event, which begins at 9 a.m., celebrates the Older Americans Month theme, “Engage at Every Age,” emphasizing that one is never too old (nor too young) to take part in activities that can enrich physical, social, civic and emotional well-being.

“This year’s festival is taking shape as our best in years and we’re looking forward to welcoming hundreds of guests to a great program, lots of interesting panels, exhibits and more,” said event coordinator, Gina Maguire.

The day features four themes: Civic, Wellness, Educational and Social Engagement, and an exhibit hall with over 30 local programs and services for older adults and their families.

Guests can be entered to win a variety of prizes by donating three or more non-perishable, non-expired food items to the Stockton Center for Community Engagement’s (SCCE) Food Drive and by visiting most of the exhibitors.

Program highlights include an 11 a.m. keynote address by international speaker and expert Donna Butts, executive director of Generations United in Washington, D.C., who will speak on “Engage at Every Age: The Benefits of Mixing It Up.” Butts comes to Stockton after a two-day speaking engagement at the United Nations in New York City, and will provide a sneak peak of a major report on intergenerational programs to be released at the National Press Club in Washington DC in early June.

Reigning Ms. Senior America, New Jersey’s own Carolyn Slade Hardin, winner of several awards and commendations for her civic and humanitarian initiatives.

Other highlights include a “Navigating County Government”  panel with Atlantic County Freeholders, Zumba Gold and Bachata Dance classes, tips on “Couples as Caregivers” and a discussion on “Age Friendly Universities: What about Stockton?” by SCOSA director Dave Burdick.

Spring classes have ended, so parking is ample, steps away from the building. For more information, including exhibitor and sponsor information, visit stockton.edu/scosa.
