Money Matter$ Workshop: Financial Resources on Campus

Galloway, N.J. — Stockton University students can learn practical skills to help them better manage their money during a new financial wellness workshop Series this fall titled Money Matter$.

Stockton’s School of Business is partnering with Stockton Cares to present three free workshops designed to give students financial knowledge, such as understanding credit scores, and tools, such as creating a budget, that they can use during college and beyond.

The series begins Oct. 14 with Financial Resources on Campus, led by Kelly Burns, Stockton’s Student Basic Needs Resources coordinator. Students will learn about financial and basic-needs resources available at the university and how to access assistance when they need it.

The second workshop, Understanding Credit, will be held Nov. 9 and led by School of Business faculty members Barry Palatnik and Jiajin “Sandy” Chen. The session will cover credit scores, credit cards, loans and interest rates, as well as common financial mistakes students should avoid.

Chen will lead the final workshop, Financial Literacy 101, on Nov. 23. Students will learn the fundamentals of budgeting, smart spending and saving, along with strategies for setting achievable financial goals.

All three workshops will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. in Meeting Room 5 of the Campus Center on Stockton’s Galloway campus. The workshops are free and open to all Stockton students.

Students can register for the workshops through Eventbrite.

Stockton Cares is collaborative team of campus partners that meets weekly to assess student needs and develop strategies to address social, mental health, academic and financial concerns.
