Ospreys Against Oppression Promote Racial Justice
Stockton Athletics launched the Ospreys Against Oppression (OAO) racial justice team this semester. Within Athletics’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, the OAO is comprised of a passionate group of student-athletes and staff committed to racial and social justice.
The objective of the OAO is to create racial awareness within Athletics and the Stockton community, to use sports to battle racism, and to work to make our community a better reality for all.
One initiative spotlights the voices of student-athletes Franceska Gustave and Kristen Flournoy.
Gustave, a junior middle hitter for women’s volleyball, speaks on her passion with playing volleyball and her influence as a woman of color. Flournoy, a senior forward on the basketball team, talks about the importance of athletes speaking up about racial injustices.
