Summit Focuses on Diversifying Teacher Workforce

What happens when 150 educators from preschool through post-graduate institutions get together to examine the growing differences in racial demographics between P-12 students in New Jersey schools and the educators who graduate from New Jersey colleges to teach and lead in our schools?

In October 2018, Monika Shealy, then-Dean of Rowan University’s College of Education hosted the First Annual New Jersey Convening on Diversifying the Teacher Workforce, explaining “we are here to start a movement.” According to Shealey, “We all know about the problem. This Convening was about finding the solutions.”

Since then, the New Jersey Department of Education has partnered with the New Jersey Association for Colleges of Teacher Education to co-host convenings at William Paterson University in 2019 and Rutgers New Brunswick (virtual) in 2020.

Stockton University is proud to host the Fourth Annual New Jersey Convening, a three-week series of virtual presentations, panel discussions and workshops, all aimed at Diversifying the Teacher Workforce.

Highlights include:

October 19, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. - Keynotes from Dr. Rita Kohli, Dr. Bree Picower and Dr. Tanya Maloney

Registration is free and open to the first 500 registrants.
