SILL: Maple Sugaring: A New England Tradition Comes to South Jersey!

12/3-12/17, 2021, 1-2pm, Stockton University F226 or Online via Zoom | The production of maple syrup is a fun and fascinating process that spans multiple disciplines and multiple topics in the sciences. Whether interested in it as a hobby or as a potential source of income, this experiential short course will engage you in the process and science of maple syrup production from an interdisciplinary perspective. We will focus on the potential for maple sugaring in the South, showcase Stockton University’s USDA-sponsored research and the work being done at Stockton’s brand new, high-output sugarbush. Detailed instruction on tapping for the backyard enthusiast will be provided with a broader understanding of the obstacles facing the South Jersey producer. This course will include an optional field trip to Stockton’s maple grove to explore the set up and implementation of the production site at the Stockton sugarbush.
