WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT

group of people Staller Family Honors Son’s Legacy Through Writing Award

With tears in her eyes, Billie Staller read the poignant words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children.”

These lines, from the poem “Success,” hold a deep personal meaning for Billie, who received the poem after her son Paul’s passing. Billie presented a copy of it to Lydia Pool, the newest recipient of the Paul D. Staller '97 Writing Center Tutor Award, at the award’s annual ceremony on Aug. 23.

The ceremony has become more than just a tradition — it’s a celebration of a legacy that continues to touch lives at Stockton, 10 years after Paul’s passing.

Billie and Alan Staller, of Atlantic City, shared memories of Paul, reflecting on his sense of humor and passion for helping others as a tutor.

“When my son passed away, we didn’t know what to do to keep his name alive,” Alan said. “Today, the Paul D. Staller '97 Writing Center Tutor Award and the writing center room in his name serve as a lasting tribute to Paul’s life and the impact he made.”

SCOSA directors Intergenerational Interactions Key to SCOSA's Future on Campus

Over the last 17 years, the Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) has grown from a two-person operation with few offerings into a hub of service and research specializing in the education, recreation and socialization of older adults in Atlantic County.

According to the new director, Christine Ferri, and assistant director, Jessica Fleck, growth and expansion top their agenda for SCOSA’s future.

Stockton Announces Partnership with FreeWill Website

Stockton recently announced a new partnership with FreeWill, a leading online platform for estate planning. This collaboration provides our community with a free and simple way to create legal wills and revocable living trusts, ensuring peace of mind for the future.

“I am so grateful for my Stockton experience that really helped shape most of the successes I’ve had in life from the friendships made to career opportunities. Part of that gratitude is to leave a legacy behind. That is why I’ve chosen to include Stockton as a part of my estate planning and to leave something behind to our University that has done so much for us,” said Tim Lenahan ’83.
