The Atlantic City Experience (Atlantic City Free Public Library)

“The Heston Collection contains information and research materials related to Atlantic City’s unique cultural, economic and historical development. The Heston Collection is located in the main branch of the Library.” A virtual exhibit of pages on the centennial of the 1910 airshow, Nucky’s Empire: The Prohibition Years, The Magic of Kentucky Avenue, and Remembering the March 1962 Storm can be found here.

Art and Architecture of New Jersey

This database, maintained by Kate Odgen, Associate Professor of Art History at Stockton College, is a project of her art history students. NJ artists are organized by medium; for each artist visitors can find a biography, examples of the artist’s work, and an explication of or information on that work.

Bordentown Register (Burlington County Library System)

Maintained and housed by the Burlington County Library, the archives of the Bordentown Palladium (throughout its 160-year run) can be found here.

Digitized Newspapers Collection (Atlantic County Library System)

Maintained by the Atlantic County Library, here can be found digital archives of over 5,000 newspapers from Atlantic County for the period of 1860-1923.

Created by a Rutgers MLS student, this database contains many resources for the student of New Jersey history.

New Jersey Digital Collections (NJ State Library)

Highlights of the state library’s digital collection, including the American Revolution, the Civil War, postcards, African American history for elementary school teachers, and labor reports.

The New Jersey Digital Highway

The mission of the NJDH is to “develop an immersive, user-centered information portal, to support the New Jersey learner, through a collaboration among cultural heritage institutions that supports preservation of the past; new access strategies for the future; and active engagement with resources at the local and the global level, for shared access, local ownership.” Resources for educators, librarians and curators, and students.

NJ Gen Web Project

NJGenWeb is an “internet-based project, created and maintained by volunteers, and dedicated to offering free New Jersey genealogy (and sometimes history) resources to the general public.” Users can search by general or county-specific records.

SJRail.com Wiki

The purpose of the SJRail Wiki is “to cover all the railroad history in Southern New Jersey, and to share this on the Internet.” Detailed information on all the railroads in southern NJ.

The William Spranger Library Digital History Projects

The William Spranger Library of Atlantic Cape Community College currently offers digitized projects on Amatol, a former WWI munitions factory in Mullica Twp, the Atlantic City Speedway, and Atlantic City’s war efforts during WWII.

West Jersey History Project

This project was created by people “dedicated to helping, promoting, and publishing historical research about West Jersey.” Resources include documents, images, articles, books, surveys, and maps.
