Murphy Writing to Host 'Mini Writing Getaway'
Galloway, N.J. – Murphy Writing of Stockton University, will present a “Mini Writing Getaway” workshop for writers to immerse themselves in creative writing on Saturday, September 22 from 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Galloway campus.
Participants will discuss the craft of creative writing before working on prompts that will challenge them to write for expression and discovery. They will then share their work in read-around sessions.
The unique prompts will allow this supportive program to benefit both beginning and experienced writers. The workshops create an encouraging community of writers where all feel welcome.
Peter E. Murphy, an adjunct professor at Stockton, will lead this workshop and incorporate methods that he has developed over 35 years of teaching.
“Writing is typically a solitary act,” Murphy explained. “When writers come together in a supportive community that encourages them to push their boundaries, they often experience breakthroughs. These unique prompts will allow this supportive program to benefit both beginning and experienced writers.”
Previous attendees say Murphy Writing workshops create an encouraging community of writers where all feel welcomed.
"I loved this event,” said Farrah Pileggi of Manahawkin. “Peter offers great insight into the craft of writing in an honest, down-to-earth way. The reading selections are great examples and the prompts are perfectly challenging."
“I loved how welcoming the retreat was,” said Jenna Geisinger ‘18 of Lanoka Harbor. “I truly felt among a community of writers rather than people promoting themselves. The workshop was encouraging and informative. It evaporated my writer’s block. I’m really looking forward to the next one.”
The $85 tuition includes lunch and six hours of professional development credit. Advance registration is required. For full registration information, visit stockton.edu/murphywriting or call 609-626-3594.
