'What Does it Mean to be an American' exhibit

Hammonton, N.J. — The newest exhibition at the Noyes Galleries at Stockton University’s Kramer Hall features the work of artist Daniel Robert Horne and is titled “What Does It Mean to be an American?”

The free exhibit runs until May 22 and an opening reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29. Guests are invited to meet the artist, view the portrait series, and enjoy live music by local singer James Melton.

The exhibit brings together Horne’s portraits of explorers, thinkers, activists and everyday people, highlighting the idea that American identity is shaped not by a single figure or moment but by a diverse mosaic of stories.

From frontier pioneers and revolutionary leaders to abolitionists, cultural trailblazers and modern citizens, each portrait reflects a different facet of the nation’s evolving character. Collectively, the works invite viewers to consider how courage, resilience, creativity and hope continue to shape the American story.

The Noyes Galleries at Kramer Hall is located at 30 Front Street and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call (609) 626-3805.
