‘Genocide Awareness & Overcoming Adversity’
Galloway, N.J. — The Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center (HRC) at Stockton University will sponsor an on-campus talk on April 7 by a survivor of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
Kizito Kalima, the founder and executive director of the Peace Center for Forgiveness & Reconciliation, will discuss how to rebuild one’s life after surviving the genocide in a talk titled “Genocide Awareness & Overcoming Adversity.” The lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in L-112 on the university’s Galloway campus.
Kalima’s story of unthinkable suffering, unconditional forgiveness and transformational healing provides a unique lens into how we can understand genocide and its aftermath. Estimates indicate that between 500,000 and 800,000 people were killed during the genocide against the Tutsi between April and July 1994.
The event is co-sponsored by the Bridge of Faith, the Stockton Honors College, minors in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Jewish Studies and the High School Dual Credit Program in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. For New Jersey educators, 2.0 professional development hours are available for attending the event.
Kalima’s talk is free and open to the public, but you must RSVP by calling the HRC at 609-652-4699 or emailing hrc@stockton.edu.
