Rosenthal Memorial Program

Ann Weiss
Atlantic City, N.J. — Ann Weiss, an author, filmmaker, educator and founder of the Eyes from the Ashes foundation, will be the keynote speaker at the second annual Gail Hirsch Rosenthal Memorial Program on March 25.
The Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton University will sponsor the event, which honors the former director of the center who died in 2023. Weiss will speak at 6 p.m. in the Fannie Lou Hamer Event Room at the John F. Scarpa Academic Center at Stockton Atlantic City.
Weiss’ talk will be tied to her book “The Last Album: Eyes from the Ashes of Auschwitz-Birkenau” that features more than 2,000 personal photographs confiscated from Jews deported in 1943. She also had created a documentary film title “Eyes from the Ashes.” Drawing on more than four decades of research, Weiss will shift the focus from how Jews were murdered during the Holocaust to how they lived and how they would want to be remembered.
The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required. Please call the Holocaust Resource Center at 609-652-4699 or email hrc@stockton.edu. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.
New Jersey educators can receive 2.0 professional development hours for attending. The event is co-sponsored by the Board of Jewish Education of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, Minors in Holocaust & Genocide Studies and Jewish Studies at Stockton University, the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education and the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage.
