Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University community is invited to learn more about local and on-campus resources available to individuals battling hunger and homelessness through various programs and activities beginning throughout the week. 

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

The week is sponsored by the Office of Student Development, the Office of Community Engagement, Kramer Hall of Stockton University in Hammonton and Chartwells Dining Services.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is nationally recognized Nov. 16-22. On-campus programs in recognition of the week will be hosted by the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) on the Galloway campus and by Kramer Hall in Hammonton.

Project Clean Plate – Galloway

In collaboration with Chartwells, OCE student leaders will be scraping the leftover food in N-Wing and weighing it on Monday, Nov. 17. The leaders will then create informational signage on food waste in America and table in N-Wing on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Empty Plate Exhibit – Hammonton

Four plates with facts and quotes about food insecurity will be on display all week in Kramer Hall. Signage will include information on how to access Stockton’s food assistance programs and how to apply for SNAP benefits.

Socks in a Box Drive – Hammonton

Kramer Hall’s donation drive will specifically request socks, a highly sought-after donation. Once completed, all donations will be sent to local homeless shelters.

Food Distribution at Westminster Christian Worship Center – Off-Campus, Atlantic City

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, Stockton students will have the opportunity to support a large food distribution event in Atlantic City.

Stockton partners with the Westminster Christian Worship Center on the third or fourth Wednesday of every month to serve over 200 community members. Community members receive food, clothing, household supplies and information resources for services they may need.

Personal Care Item Collection at the Student, Faculty and Staff Dinner – Galloway

On Thursday, Nov. 20, OCE will collect personal care items from the attendees of the Student, Faculty, and Staff Dinner to donate to Sister Jean’s Kitchen in Atlantic City.

According to their website, “Sister Jean’s Kitchen is an organization dedicated to alleviating hunger and poverty in Atlantic City, N.J., by bringing together individual donors, volunteers and funding sources to provide food and other resources to people in need.”
