“Immigration 1.0 Relief Prints on Fabric” at Noyes Arts Garage

Atlantic City, N.J. – Philadelphia-based artist Fay Stanford’s prints will be on display at the Noyes Arts Garage until Sunday, Nov. 30.

“Immigration 1.0 Relief Prints on Fabric” by Stanford explores the relationship between the indigenous Lenape and the Europeans who settled in the Mid-Atlantic.

According to Stanford, who originally hails from Long Island, New York, the relations between the two peoples began peacefully, until thousands of people poured across the ocean, and “immigration became a bit of a problem.”

Fay Stanford’s favorite part of printmaking is that during the process, she never knows what the end product will look like. There are many materials available for printing, but Stanford prefers to print on fabric because it is the most interesting material to her.

After the prints have thoroughly dried, Stanford sews the image onto a fabric of her choosing. This fabric provides structural support and a convenient way for her to display her work. Stanford specified that it may take years for her to complete her woodcut projects, as she works on multiple projects simultaneously.
