'The Implicated Subject: Beyond Victims and Perpetrators'
Galloway, N.J. –Michael Rothberg will speak about his book “The Implicated Subject: Beyond Victims and Perpetrators” at the 12th Annual Paul Lyons Memorial Lecture at 4:30 p.m. March 22 via Zoom.
Rothberg will lay out his theory of the implicated subject, illustrating his point with examples from the reckoning of transatlantic slavery and structural racism. Rothberg’s book offers a new theory on political responsibility.
Rothberg is the 1939 Society Samuel Goetz Chair in Holocaust Studies, Chair of the Department of Comparative Literature and Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Lyons, who died in 2009, was a professor of social work and history at Stockton. He advocated peace, justice and human rights, and committed to helping those from troubled backgrounds.
