As Chief Officer for Government Relations, Title IX and EEO, Michael oversees the
Office of Government Relations and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Institutional
Compliance (OEOIC). The University’s Government Relations team works with the Governor’s
office, Legislature, Congressional delegation, and other public officials, as well
as community stakeholders, on advancing the University’s interests. This includes
advocacy related to equitable State funding, economic development, investment in higher
education, and legislation impacting higher education. The OEOIC team implements,
among others, Title IX, EEO, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and the State Policy
Prohibiting Discrimination in the Workplace, furthering campus safety as well as an
inclusive, equitable community. Michael represents the University on the boards of
the National Aerospace Research and Technology Park, and The Chamber of Commerce of
Southern New Jersey.
Michael has broad experience in higher education administration having served as Vice
President for Personnel, Labor, and Government Relations, Vice President of Administration
and Finance, and as the University’s General Counsel. He served as Adjunct Faculty
at the University’s School of Business.
In his nearly 30 years as an attorney, Michael has held leadership roles in the legal,
business, and governmental sectors. Following several years in private practice, he
served in the Office of Chief Counsel to the Governor of New Jersey. He was then appointed
by the Governor to serve as Executive Director/CEO of the New Jersey Higher Education
Student Assistance Authority, overseeing the administration of the State’s multibillion-dollar
financial aid portfolio.
Michael received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Financial Management from The Catholic
University of America in Washington, D.C. He received a Juris Doctor from the Rutgers University School of Law. Michael also obtained an MBA with a dual
concentration in Finance and Management from the Rutgers University School of Business.
