Being a CEO intern has allowed me to not only create an impact on campus but has also opened doors to jobs and career opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to access otherwise. This internship has also granted me the opportunity to receive guidance from two of the loveliest mentors I’ve ever had; Dr. Ana Edmondson and Yesenia Pacheco. Their leadership and guidance have been essential to the success of this internship, as well as our academic and professional careers; and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Last but certainly not least, this internship showed me my potential,  that I do have what it takes to be a leader, and that I am capable of amazing things. All I needed was a group that saw that potential and believed in me, and for me, that was the Cultural Engagement Ospreys. Being a CEO has been so revealing to me about how the corporate or professional world works. The way we operate is very similar to how our faculty and staff work at Stockton. I have been able to grow in certain areas like building social capital, keeping open communication, and having a growth mindset. It has been such an amazing journey to meet so many new people and learn about their backgrounds. Each and every one of us brings our own unique ideas and personalities to this conference that makes it so surreal. One of the things I always say is that our brand is “student led,” which means that our voices are finally being heard and utilized and that is the biggest joy.

The CEO Internship has been a great overall experience for me that has allowed me to grow personally and professionally.I have increased my knowledge and awareness of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. I believe that these concepts are practical techniques and skills that I can now implement in real-life professional and business scenarios, to allow me to be a better professional and person. During this internship, I also learned how to improve my ability to communicate, network, and  build relationships. This process has also helped me develop and enhance my professional network, because of the emphasis placed on the importance of creating connections and social capital.

The CEO interns will be expected to develop skills in eight career readiness competencies, endorsed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, given their engagement in a high impact practice. Across their eight-month internship experience beginning with their interview in September to the implementation of the Inclusive Leadership Conference in April, CEO Interns develop skills in 1) Career & Self-Development, 2) Communication, 3) Critical Thinking, 4) Equity & Inclusion, 5) Leadership, 6) Professionalism, 7) Teamwork, & 8) Technology. 

Leading up to the conference, CEO interns attend a series of professional development workshops, retreats, conferences, and meetings throughout the academic year. CEO Interns are expected to fulfill 200 internship hours in the fall and 200 hours in the spring.
