Exit Berlin: How One Woman Saved Her Family from Nazi Germany

On Monday, October 20th, author Charlotte Bonelli spoke about her new book, Exit Berlin: How One Woman Saved Her Family from Nazi Germany, to community members at the Milton and Betty Katz JCC in Margate. The presentation was sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, the Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, the Katz JCC of Margate, and the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton.

The following day, she spoke to students enrolled in the course titled "The History of the Third Reich," taught by Dr. Michael Hayse, and to students participating in an internship at the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center. All of the students had read her book as a homework assignment. The students were able to learn more about the life of Luzie Hatch, about whom the book was written, and Luzie's efforts to save her family from the dangers of Nazi Germany. The students also had the opportunity to ask Charlotte Bonelli questions about the writing process and researching historical archives.
