Task Force for Reimagining General Education at Stockton University

smiling students

We’ve been discussing some elements of our general education curriculum–the attributes and subscripts–for two years. That research and dialogue have led us to where we are today: Stockton is embarking on what could be the most significant general education curricular reform in the history of the university.

We want–we need!--to hear from YOU.

We want to work together to agree on learning outcomes and a curriculum that prepares students professionally AND enriches them personally, while bringing faculty and staff professional fulfillment. We want to maintain signature elements of our General Studies legacy–a degree of autonomy in course creation and maintenance for faculty, for instance, and truly interdisciplinary learning for students. At the same time, we want to address issues for all stakeholders with the current system, especially a high degree of complexity that too frequently leads to check box driven course choices for students, can make it hard for faculty proposing courses to get all the approvals needed from various sources–navigating different systems and groups– and can make it challenging for newcomers to understand the curriculum.

We want everyone to experience joy and impactful learning in general education.

We want everyone to engage in the process of reimagining general education.
