Cannabis Legalization in New Jersey: Lessons in Legalization from Other States

In November 2020, voters in New Jersey approved a constitutional amendment legalizing marijuana. The state now faces the task of developing and implementing a regulatory framework around cannabis.

In this Zoom webinar lecture and Q&A, we will be joined Dr. John Hudak, Deputy Director of the Center for Effective Public Management and a senior fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution. Dr. Hudak’s research examines state and federal marijuana policy. His 2016 book, Marijuana: A Short History, offers a unique, up-to-date profile of how cannabis emerged from the shadows of counterculture and illegality to become a serious, even mainstream, public policy issue and source of legal revenue for both businesses and governments.

Dr. Hudak will discuss cannabis legalization in other states, considering how other states have set up their legalized cannabis regulations, what the effects of legalization have been elsewhere, and what lessons can be drawn from the experience of other states that might inform our state’s system.
