Linking Assignments
HelioCampus allows for assignments to be linked directly from Blackboard.
Assignment linking creates “links” or relationships between key assignments and learning and accreditation outcomes and competencies. Assignment linking allows instructors and program chairs/coordinators to support assessment efforts by capturing direct assessment data for existing key assignments and connecting them to outcomes and standards to improve student learning.
Getting Started
- Enter your assignments into your Blackboard Gradebook
- Ensure a maximum score is assignend to the assignment
- Log into HelioCampus and follow the step-by-step guide below

Helpful Tips
HelioCampus allows for data to be continoiously collected from semester to semester. This allows for larger samples which allows for programs to analyze and make informed decisions.
Carry Assignments From Semester to Semester
The linking process can be done once and will automatically be copied over every term with each administration of the course.
To avoid broken links, assignment names for linked assignments should not be changed from term to term.
Using Invisible Columns in Blackboard
If you are trying to target a specific part of an assignment such as a handful of test questions or one section of a rubric, using invisible columns in Blackboard can help acheive this.
- Create an invisible column/assignment in Blackboard (this assignment will not contribute to the final grade; this is only for assessment purposes)
- Enter the maxium score
- Link this assignment in HelioCampus
- Grade assignment
- View data in HelioCampus
Copy Assignment Links
Once assignment linking has been performed, assignment links can be copied to a different section (or multiple sections) within the same course.
