GALLOWAY TWP., NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey again earned impressive national ranking in the U.S. News and World Report Americas Best Colleges issue released today.

Stockton, ranked among the top five public liberal arts colleges in the nation during two of the previous four years, was among only six public liberal arts colleges ranked in the top three tiers of institutions in the category for 2006. Only two other public liberal arts schools, the University of Minnesota-Morris (ranked fourth nationally) and the University of North Carolina-Asheville (fifth) joined Stockton in the third tier. First-tier schools are listed by rank up to 104, with third and fourth tier listed alphabetically.

We are pleased to once again have our status as an elite liberal arts college with a national reputation affirmed by U.S. News and World Report, President Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr. said. These rankings are helpful to prospective students and parents as they make their choice of a college. Its very satisfying to be recognized in a national context.

Considering the vast majority of the institutions with which we compete are private and have established histories and considerable endowments, our ranking is very significant, Dr. Saatkamp said. It is fitting that our College, a public institution offering affordability, accessibility and diversity, is mentioned in the company of such fine liberal arts colleges and universities nationwide.

In recent years, the U.S. News rankings issue has become one of the most eagerly anticipated publications of the year in higher education circles. It has become well-known as a respected consumer guide for parents and prospective students.

Stockton, a 7,000-student public liberal arts college, is part of the New Jersey higher education system. The College is nestled in a unique Pine Barrens setting just 10 miles from the beaches of Atlantic City and other Southern New Jersey seashore resorts.
