Galloway Twp., NJ The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) has awarded its 2004-2005 Outstanding College Educator Award to Francis P. Thomas, CPA/PFS, Associate Professor at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
Thomas, a resident of Port Republic, was recognized for his excellence in teaching, innovative educational techniques, and his active involvement in the New Jersey CPA profession. Throughout his 26-year teaching career at Stockton, Thomas has integrated real world accounting into the classroom by using case studies and maintaining his strong network of local employers, with whom he arranges student internships.
One such relationship with a local accounting firm, Capaldi Reynolds & Pelosi of Northfield, has resulted in 12 Stockton graduates taking on positions with the firm, many the direct result of internships. Frank has developed a great relationship with our firm over the years, said Bob Reynolds, a partner in the firm. It has reached the point where I simply call Frank and tell him I need someone and he supplies a person who is perfect for our needs. Thats how well he knows the culture of our firm.
Thomas has participated in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPAs) Professor/Practitioner Program where case studies are jointly developed by practitioners and a professor. His case studies have been incorporated into the accounting curriculums at Richard Stockton College and at colleges and universities across the United States. Thomas also emphasizes research techniques and the use of state-of-the-art research tools for taxation, accounting, personal finance and investments.
He serves as a member of the AICPA Tax/Regulation Committee that screens and selects the tax questions for the Uniform CPA Examination. Thomas established a chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the international Honor Society in Business Administration, in 1992, and has served as the Chapter Faculty Advisor since its inception.
Thomas received his Masters in Business Administration from St. Johns University and his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Wagner College. He has been a member of the NJSCPA since 1982 and has served on the NJSCPA Board of Trustees. He currently serves as a Trustee and Treasurer of the NJSCPA Scholarship Fund.
