Author of Diet for a Small Planet to Conduct Nationally Broadcasted Event; Reflections on Fighting Hunger

Galloway Township, NJ The annual, nationally broadcasted World Food Day teleconference will be able to be viewed via satellite from the Performing Arts Center at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. The event will be held on Friday, October 14, 2005 from 12:00 noon through 3:00 p.m. est on the Pomona campus.

 

The three-hour, national telecast is presented each year to promote awareness and discuss solutions for ending hunger around the world. The program is available primarily by satellite downlinks at colleges and other institutions in the U.S. and will be carried by a number of cable stations, some PBS stations, and other educational outlets.

 

Author and activist, Frances Moore Lapp, best know for her 1971 book, Diet for a Small Planet, will be the special guest and will discuss the basis for her position that the causes of hunger are human-made, and that social change could effectively create a hunger-free world. She has written or co-written a myriad of books, including her 2002 release, Hopes Edge; The Next Diet for a Small Planet, written with her daughter, Anna. In addition to Lapps appearance, there will be a live uplink featuring Dr. Pedro Sanchez from the World Food Prize ceremonies in Iowa, along with videotaped cameos by Ambassador Tony Hall, U.S. Ambassador to the food agencies in Rome, Italy, and Dr. Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
