Kesselman Named to National Peer Review Panel by US Dept. of Justice

GALLOWAY TWP., NJ Dr. Harvey Kesselman has been asked by the United States Department of Justice to serve as peer reviewer of grant applications from colleges and universities from throughout the United States.

 

Kesselman, of Mays Landing, Chief Executive Officer of Southern Regional Institute and Educational Technology Training Center of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, will spend a week in Washington, D.C. reviewing grant applications that provide victims of sexual assault and other forms of violence with the protection and services they need in order to pursue healthy lives, and for institutions of higher education to hold offenders accountable.

 

This is an extremely important social issue that also must be addressed by colleges and universities, Kesselman said. There needs to be coordinated support for victims of these crimes and perpetrators must be brought to justice.

 

Kesselman, a nationally recognized expert in campus judicial systems and response to serious crimes on college and university campuses, is serving on the grants review panel for the fourth consecutive year. Stocktons procedures for handling these matters has served as a model for other institutions for decades and have been the subject of numerous publications, workshops and seminars. Kesselman also represented the state colleges in authoring the Sexual Assault Victims Bill of Rights, one of the first documents of its kind in the United States.

 

Created in 1995, the Office on Violence Against Women provides national leadership against domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Since its inception, the Office has developed and implemented a multifaceted approach to responding to these crimes: by forging state and local partnerships among police, prosecutors, the judiciary, victim advocates, health care providers and faith leaders.
