Culture in Atlantic City Series

Atlantic City, NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will host a series of three, one-per-month presentations, on African American Society and Culture in Atlantic City.

 

The first event, moderated by Reverend Colin Days, Second Baptist Church of Atlantic City, will be held on April 24, 2005, and the theme will be Historic African American Churches in Atlantic City. This first event will include an open mic period for attendees who want to share their own Atlantic City history.

 

The second lecture will be presented by Professor Richlyn Goddard, native of Atlantic City, Stockton alum and adjunct professor. Professor Goddard also teaches at Howard University. This presentation will take place on May 15 and will focus on African Americans in Atlantic City: 1850-1900. Moderator will be Joseph Rubenstein, Professor of Anthropology at Stockton College.

 

The third and final event of the series will be titled African Americans in Business and Politics in Atlantic City Prior to Casino Gambling, and will be held on June 12. Moderator will be Pierre Hollingsworth, retired Atlantic City Fire Chief and former president of the local chapter of the NAACP.

 

All lectures will be held on Sundays at Stocktons Carnegie Library Center in Atlantic City at 3:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
