Atlantic City, NJ. The Learning from Local Leaders conference hosted by The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey at its Atlantic City Carnegie Library Center, Tuesday Oct. 26, 2004, will include a special opportunity for four leaders-to-be.

Israel Posner, an organizer of the event, said four students will be sponsored to attend the conference. Two students from Atlantic City High School will be sponsored by the Metropolitan Business and Citizens Association in Atlantic City, and two Stockton College students will be sponsored by the Atlantic City Regional Chamber of Commerce.

What better way to open the doors of leadership than to allow some of our young people to see effective leaders in action and learn from them, Posner said. Event organizers were finalizing the names of the student leaders at the time of this article.

The conference features a prominent lineup of individuals holding leadership positions in the fields of education, business, labor, government relations and health care. While the conference is primarily designed for adult learners, Posner feels the students can gain valuable lessons by attending the session.

While the conference is targeted to supervisors and managers, it isnt necessary to be established in a career to benefit from this conference, he said. Anyone in a leadership role or who aspires to one will gain much from the day we have planned. Posner, along with Lewis Leitner, are Vice Presidents of Management Development and Professional Services at the College. They will be co-moderating a discussion session on the challenges of leadership to wrap-up the conference proceedings. Very few people seem to be natural leaders, Leitner said. Most of us must learn how to lead. Its not often there is an opportunity to see and hear such a group of influential area leaders in one place.

Invited speakers at the conference include Dr. Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr., President, Richard Stockton College; Redina Gilliam-Mosee, Senior Vice President, Governmental

Relations/Planning for Caesars Entertainment; C. Robert McDevitt, President, Local 54, Hotel Employee and Restaurant Employees International Union; George Lynn, President and Chief Executive Officer of AtlantiCare, and Kay Seelig, President and Owner, Globe Vending, Inc.

The Conference takes place at the Carnegie Library Center, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City. Registration is $49 per person with discounts available for groups of 10 or more. Registration includes continental breakfast, lunch and free parking.

The conference, which begins at 8:30 AM and runs through 3:30 PM, is co-sponsored by the Atlantic City Press and the National Gaming Observer, published by the Spectrum Gaming Group.
