GALLOWAY TWP., NJ - The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey has planned a special program and Day of Service in conjunction with Galloway Twp. Public Schools on Monday, January 17, 2005. The event commemorates the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday and will benefit many local groups and agencies.

The College is officially closed for the observance of Dr. Kings National Holiday, but we are hoping people from Stockton will consider volunteering a few hours to help those less fortunate, said Stockton President Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr., who initiated a very successful Day of Service for incoming freshmen and transfer students at the College last September.

The partnership of Stockton students, faculty and staff, along with Galloway public school students and representatives, and local volunteers, will gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Sports Center for registration, followed by an hour-long program featuring speakers, award presentations, and musical selections from area choral groups. Immediately following the program, participants will disperse for various service activities.

Some of the agencies that will benefit from the Day of Service include the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Caring, Inc., Seashore Gardens, Pleasantech Academy, the Atlantic County SPCA, Absecon Manor, and Samaritan Hospice. In addition to the off-campus service activities, service options will be conducted on campus including letter-writing to members of the armed services and boxing books to be shipped to Africa for Books Without Borders.
