Civility in Government & Politics Award
William J. Hughes Center Civility in Government and Politics Award
(September 13, 2011)
The Selection Committee for the William J. Hughes Center Award for Civility in Government and Politics selected W. Cary Edwards as the first recipient. Mr. Edwards was honored for his 30 years of service to the people of New Jersey as a member of the General Assembly, Chief Counsel to Governor Thomas H. Kean, Attorney General for New Jersey and Chairman of the State Commission of Investigation. In all of those positions, he earned the reputation for fostering engagement and dialogue. While a determined advocate, Mr. Edwards reached across the aisle and sought to reach consensus on the many difficult issues he encountered during his time in public life. The Civility Award was presented to Mrs. Lynn Edwards on Tuesday, September 13th. Net proceeds will be used to fund scholarships for students in the Washington Internship Program.
